John Ulin’s B.B.A. ’06, M.B.A. ’07 greatest accomplishment at Adelphi?
“I would have to say it would be finishing this [final] semester, I took five classes and worked three jobs, and there were points where I wasn’t even sure if I could keep going at the rate I was.”He attributes his success to the encouragement he received from his family, the Adelphi faculty and staff, and his co-workers at Merrill Lynch and Designer Shoe Warehouse
To help manage his time, he wrote out a weekly schedule every Sunday night. Such time management skills enabled him to squeeze in time for hobbies, including recording an acoustic pop CD, playing soccer or hockey once a week, and working with his church youth group.
Seeing the value of his education also motivated him.
“I’ve had some outstanding professors at Adelphi—professors who don’t just teach from a textbook, but can actually share their real-world experience with you.”His learning extended well beyond the classroom. He described working as a graduate assistant for School of Business Professor Samuel Natale as “one of the best learning-working experiences I’ve ever had.”
Through Adelphi’s COACH (Count on Alumni for Career Help) program, Mr. Ulin secured a coveted internship with Merrill Lynch in Manhattan, where he was able to apply and further advance his knowledge and skills.
A member of the Delta Mu Delta business honor society, John graduated with a 4.0 GPA. He credits his experience at Nassau Community College with providing the foundation for his Adelphi achievements.
With his M.B.A. in hand, John has the option to join his father, an entrepreneur for more than 40 years, in his business or strike out on his own in the world of financial advising.
