Online M.S. in Emergency Management

The field of emergency management is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the labor market, and it is projected to grow over the next decade. Through a broad, all-hazard perspective, the Master of Science in Emergency Management program prepares you for leadership roles in organizations and services that deal with natural disasters, homeland security, and terrorism. Emergency managers play a pivotal role in our nation’s security and crisis management infrastructure. They are counted vital to the system that keeps our citizens safe and secure during times of uncertainty.

What will I study?

The M.S. in Emergency Management is a 39-credit program that culminates in an emergency management capstone research project and presentation. You will complete 30 core program credit requirements by completing required emergency management courses through the College of Professional and Continuing Studies and required management courses through the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business. Your studies culminate with a research-based summative capstone project, which is a requirement for graduation.

Who are the faculty?

Our faculty includes K.C. Rondello, M.D. and David R. Williams, Ed.D. among other professionals who are currently working in emergency management. They have been on the front lines during the recovery from several natural disasters. Our faculty members have presented at emergency management and disaster preparedness conferences around the country. They bring years of experience, practice and research in emergency management into the classroom.

What will it cost?

Tuition is offered at a reduced fee of $945 per credit with fees listed below. The estimated total cost for the M.S in Emergency Management is approximately $39,250. The estimated total cost for the Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management is approximately $19,400.

How do I apply?

Submit the following:

  • College of Professional and Continuing Studies application along with a nonrefundable $50 application fee
  • Essay: 500-word personal statement describing your interest in the online Master of Science in Emergency Management program
  • Official transcript(s) from all schools previously attended. Students applying for admission to the M.S. in Emergency Management program must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8.
  • Two letters of recommendation: One should be of an academic nature from a faculty member who is familiar with your academic work (e.g., a former professor or instructor); the second reference should be from an individual who can discuss your work or relevant experience.
  • Résumé: Work experience and career progression are important and will be considered by the admissions committee.
